I know a lot of people are talking about the death of Gerald Ford. And I am sure that a lot of people have more to say on him then I do, since his presidency ended before I was even born. But something as simple as making a guest appearance on the Simpsons, tells a lot about a president.
Of some of the articles and whatnot that I have read today, the one description that really stuck with me regarding Mr. Ford's presidency, was the he was the "quiet president" (I think I read that on MSN.com's homepage). And for some reason that seem to fit to me. Yet again, his presidency was over before I was even born.
I saw pictures of Mr. Ford that accompanied the articles that spoke of him, and he just really looked like a "guy". Not a politician, just a "guy". A "guy" that did a lot of good for this country. Despite the flack that he gets for pardoning Richard Nixon, people don't look at why he did it. He didn't think that Nixon should get away with what he did. He did however remember that small little thing that most people don't, "the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, or the one". He didn't do it for approval ratings, he did it for the country. A country bogged down with the "drama" of a fallen president won't pay attention to the needs of the present. Makes sense to me. Look at the state we are in cleaning up after a past mistake made by a former president.
Can't really say much more. I'm just a youngin'. Maybe someone of older, wiser times can help me appreciate Mr. Ford's presidency as much as I do the man.
Man, Gerald Ford and James Brown . . . boy did this holiday season get shit on.

"Hi. I'm Gerry Ford. I just moved here."
"Former President Gerald Ford? Put her there!"
"Tell me Homer, do you like football?"
"Yes, Mr. Ford!"
"Do you like nachos?"
"Yes, Mr. Ford!"
"Well why don't you come over and watch the game, and we'll have nachos. And then some beer."
