Ju-on -- Furthering Women In Dominant Roles

There is some images from this "movie", but more like a lifetime experience. For me it is something that made Exorcist, look like a Disney Movie. Not because the scenes were anymore horrific, but because it was just fucking scare-shitless-good. Takashi Shimizu's vision of horror in this story truly demonstrates the difference in our cultures. Japanese horror and American horror is very different. These are images that could bore themselves into your head and never leave. Like a mind-boggling, malignant, horror tick burrowing its way into your soul . . .

There is a point to the title of this post. In Japanese, Ju-on is a curse laid upon a house where evil has been done, in the name of anger. In the movies case, the father murder his wife, in a jealous rage. The son was never found. The mother and son are therefore left to haunt (for the lack of a better word) all that enter the home, until the curse is lifted.

The staring role of the "hero" is played by the woman of Megumi Okina. A talented and beautiful woman (although I have a weakness for Japanese women) who must unravel the mystery as to what happened in this home. (She is pictured above.) No one seems to be able to help, until Rika (Megumi Okina) tracks down the detective that handle the case back when the father first murdered his wife.

The horror, visually, is just astounding. There is nothing that mere words cannot do justice. To sit in the dark of the night and watch this movie, is what being scared is all about. The visuals, sound effects, and music all paint a picture of what hatred and jealousy can breed. Truly a masterpiece of fear.

I leave you with this . . .

. . . the next time (after watching the movie) if you can walk up or down any stairs without running, and looking over your shoulder, you are beyond fear.

And the sound of her guttural groan echoes through you heart, and you know that you are no longer a man, but a scared little boy . . .

Nymph -- The Celebration Of A Woman's Seductive Touch

Nymphs were thought be beautiful women that men were enticed by with their sultry looks and pleasing form.

Greek mythology, tells that a nymphs were nature entities, many times bound to a specific location or land form. Nymphs were also the frequent target of lusty satyrs, followers of the god Pan.

"The home of the nymphs is on mountains and in groves, by springs and rivers, in valleys and cool grottoes. They are frequently associated with the superior divinities, the huntress Artemis, the prophetic Apollo, the reveller and god of trees Dionysus, and with rustic gods such as Pan and Hermes (as the god of shepherds)." -- Quoted from Wikipedia

Nymphs carried with them a unmistakable beauty that mirrored the land that they were accustom to. They complimented nature, and stood a testament to what the gods of creation had accomplished. Although there is thought, that more than likely they were seducers of men, that is more linked to Sirens and Mermaids (perhaps). The Nymphs were pure and supposed to be untouched, but often harassed by the wicked libido of satyrs.

The Islamic comparison, or familiar, would be Houri. In Islam, the houri, are described as "fair women of Paradise" awaiting devout Muslims.

According to the Qur'an (55.56), the houri are pure, having never been touched by man or jinn and so they are virgins who marry the devout in the Jannah, the paradise, of the afterlife.

The houri are also mentioned in the following verses of the Quran:

"Surely those who guard (against evil) are in a secure place,
In gardens and springs;
They shall wear of fine and thick silk, (sitting) face to face;
Thus (shall it be), and We will wed them with Houris pure, beautiful ones.[44:51-54]
"In them shall be those who restrained their eyes; before them neither man nor jinni shall have touched them."[55:56]

It is still so amazing that many cultures have revered women far above the man, even in some cultures that might be considered to be sexist, or ruled by man. From the time that Lilith (see post Lilith) abandoned Adam because she would not be subservient to him, women have always been a treasured that far too often is taken for granted. These are the bringers of life, and the need for the male side of it, is quickly dissolving.

Even a monstrous woman, such as Medusa, in Greek Mythology, still held a power over man. Although ghastly in appearance (as in the movie Clash of the Titans, which starred Ray Harryhausen's awesome stop-motion Medusa) many artists depict her with an almost sensual apparence. Probably the reason why men could not help but look at her. And the price would be that they would be turned to stone.

Medusa was once a beautiful goddess.

"In the most well known version of the myth, Medusa originally started out as a beautiful woman. She was raped by Poseidon in Athena's temple. Poseidon was an arch-rival of Athena's since at one time he vied for patronage of Athens; the soon-to-become Athenians chose Athena's offering of the olive tree over Poseidon's offering of horses or a spring of water." (Quoted from Wikipedia)

Athena then punished Medusa for the desecration of her temple by turning her into a hideous creature, with living snakes for hair and a look that would turn any living thing to stone. She was then banished.

"Another well known version is that the once human Medusa claimed to be more beautiful than the Greek Goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. This caused her to turn Medusa and her sisters into Gorgons." (Quoted from Wikipedia)

Through all these legends, is it not strange that the goddess were the ones that seemed to control the events of things. They charged gods for their lecherous and selfish acts. They punished vain daughters and goddess that desired the flesh of men. (Almost the exact opposite of the Christian tale of the Nephilim, who were born of fallen angels that desired to have sex with earthly women. That tale in itself lending to the erotic essence that women carry.)

Someone told me that (I'm paraphrasing from memory) "that mankind will inevitably follow the woman", because of the intelligence and kind spirit that women exude.

So don't take them for granted they are treasure to appreciate. They are not our lessers, they are not our concubines, they are not our property. If anything, we are theirs.

 Succubus (Nudity)

The Succubus was a female demon that was thought to prey on men in their sleep. Often cultures have blamed nocturnal emissions of men sleeping on the Succubus. This was because the Succubus was thought to steal the semen of sleeping men, and then used to impregnate other women, with their incubi, or offspring.

The following is taken from en.wikipedia.org It entails some of the writers throughout time that have lend-ed their perceptions and evolutions of the succubi.

"According to the Malleus Maleficarum, or "Witches' Hammer", succubi would collect semen from the men they slept with, which incubi would then use to impregnate women. Children so begotten were supposed to be more susceptible to the influence of demons.

Honoré de Balzac wrote a short story The Succubus[1] concerning a 1271 trial of a she-devil succubus in the guise of a woman, who amongst other things could use her hair to entangle victims.

From the 16th century, the carving of a succubus on the outside of an inn indicated that the establishment also operated as a brothel."

The succubi have changed in appearance many times. The most constant feature is that they are always beautiful, lustful creatures, that were to fulfill the fantasies of their male victims. It was thought that the succubi actually fed off the sexual arousal of the men that they were with, to the point of physical exhaustion, thereby killing the man is some instances.

Many times the succubi are pictured as a female bat-like creature, with wings and sometimes a tail, or horns. The succubi, are also lilin, children of Lilith. No matter the change in appearance, as said before the commonality is that they were beautiful, voluptuous creatures that could easily seduce a man.

In today's media, the succubus is featured, in one of the greatest games of all time Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, were the above picture was taken from. Also more widely known is Lilith and Morrigan, both succubi, from the video games series, Darkstalkers. Also a anime series.

Another one is the episode of South Park, where a succubus attaches herself to Chef. The boys have to find a way to expose this succubus so that Chef can be freed of her spell. As the succubus feeds on Chef the more he becomes someone that he is not. The boys finally do expose the succubus and Chef is back to normal.

Another example of the explanations man has used to explain the things that go on in our universe. I for one, find that such explanations are quite plausible, and are in no way any less refutable than any other ancient texts. Although I can say that I have never been visited by a succubi, to my knowledge. I also can't say that I haven't.

What would you do? Succubi? Or man?

 Lilith Or Eve

Lilith was thought through ancient texts to be the first wife of Adam. The reason that God then had to make Eve for Adam, is because Lilith would not be submissive to Adam, in sexual intercourse. I have quoted the following from en.wikipedia.org

"A medieval reference to Lilith as the first wife of Adam is the anonymous The Alphabet of Ben-Sira, written sometime between the 8th and 11th centuries. Lilith is described as refusing to assume a subservient role to Adam during sexual intercourse and so deserting him ("She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.'"). Lilith promptly uttered the name of God, took to the air, and left the Garden, settling on the Red Sea coast. As a side note, this places Lilith in a unique position, for she left the Garden of her own accord and before the Fall of Man, and so is untouched by the Tree of Knowledge. However, according to legend, she also knows the "true name of God"."

So the legend arouse of Lilith. Although like many legends, the validity to them is based on the mind of the reader of such legends. But the principle in here, lies that women are not meant to be subservient to men. Women, are in fact the dominant of the genders.

Through time though, the arrogance and insecurities of the male gender have caused them to try and dominant the female gender so that they feel they have a power over something. Adam was alone and wanted companionship, and according to this legend, God gave him Lilith. But Lilith would have nothing to do with Adam, because he wanted to dominate her and make her a lesser being. And she knew that was not the way it was suppose to be. As God himself told Adam that he would make a companion for him. Not a slave.

The reason for the comparison to our times it that a mistress has already embraced her role in the male gender. What people don't understand is that this is a relationship that both the mistress and the slave are comfortable with. There is something gained from both parties. And just because one doesn't understand it, doesn't make it inappropriate or evil. All must have a open mind. Unfortunately many don't.

The legend futher goes on, about what Lilith did after she had left Adam --

"Lilith then went on to mate with Asmodai and various other demons she found beside the Red Sea, creating countless lilin. Adam urged God to bring Lilith back, so three angels were dispatched after her. When the angels, Senoy, Sansenoy, and Semangelof, made threats to kill one hundred of Lilith's demonic children for each day she stayed away, she countered that she would prey eternally upon the descendants of Adam and Eve, who could be saved only by invoking the names of the three angels. She did not return to Adam."

She would have no part in being submissive to either Adam or God, no matter what the consequences were. So God decided to send "assassins" of angels to punish her children for the quarrel that they had between themselves. So Lilith in turn lashed out and preyed upon the children of Adam and Eve, for the curse that God put upon her for her insubordination. Makes you wonder what kind of God is he? Does he seem so holy to you now?

The legend of Lilith did not spring from nothing. It's validity is no more of no less possible than the validity of the Bible. It is all about perception and awareness.

The following (from wikipedia) shows some of the valid sources and people that have supported and also tired to disclaim the existence of Lilith in Bible texts.

"The background and purpose of The Alphabet of Ben-Sira is unclear. It is a collection of stories about heroes of the Bible and Talmud, it may have been a collection of folk-tales, a refutation of Christian, Karaite, or other separatist movements; its content seems so offensive to contemporary Jews that it was even suggested that it could be an anti-Jewish satire [4], although, in any case, the text was accepted by the Jewish mystics of medieval Germany.

The Alphabet of Ben-Sira is the earliest surviving source of the story, and the conception that Lilith was Adam's first wife became only widely known with the 17th century Lexicon Talmudicum of Johannes Buxtorf.

In the late 19th century, the Scottish Christian author George MacDonald incorporated the story of Lilith as Adam's first wife and predator of Eve's children into a mythopoeic fantasy novel in the Romantic style.

The role of Lilith as Adam's faithless wife has parallels with the ideas about Eve herself in the Unification theology of Sun Myung Moon."

All these kinds of legends invoke fear in people because they want to believe that the world that they live in is so simple. Not filled with creatures of the night, and vengeful God's that kill children. But the truth is the truth, and no matter how much it is denied, it is still there. If we open our minds past the "Christian" view of things, there is so much to be learned and appreciated. Life isn't man and God only. There is so much more to it.

I hope that these words might help people to understand the world around them and the possibilities that lie within.

Thank you for your time.
