What Would You Do?

 Domino III

Here's the card I was talking about, by the Hildebrant Brothers. It's not the painted version, just pencils, but I'll try to find it if I can. If nothing else once my computer is up and running, I'll have my new scanner and I'll scan the card and post it. Take care all.

 Domino II

From the first time I saw her, by Tim & Greg Hildebrant in the '94 Marvel Masterpiece card set, I knew that this gal was for me. There was something about her (I'm sure it had much to do with the Hildebrant Brothers awesome rendering of her) that just spoke to me. It was really responsible for my interest in comics. Although I had always liked reading, comic book were never something I investigated. A lot of it had to do with, at that time, about the only way to get comic books was at a comic book store, and the occasional convience store that carried them.

Nowadays comic books get more respect. Book store chains carry comics and graphic novels. There are some libraries even that have graphic novels for people to check out and read. That's a big step for comic book readers. And even those who aren't. It presents comic books as a ligeitment literature. Now, because of graphic novels (which really aren't anything new, all they are, are what we use to call Tradepaperbacks TPB, dressed up with nice covers and glossy stock) people of all interests in reading can find them without having to go to the nearest dark smoky comic book store, that is run by the 30 something year old guy, who still lives with his parents.

But, that's not what I wanted to talk about. Quite obviosly from the title of this post.

Domino -- what a gal. Once I discovered Domino in that card set, I knew I wanted to learn all about her. She was my first comic book crush. (After reading more though Mystique and Storm almost passed her up, but I'm loyal to Domino.) So I had to find out where it was that she apperared in. That led me too X-Force. In the pages of X-Force I learned alot of Domino and who she was. For instance, she's a mutant, born with a special talent. Her's was quite different from most of the mutants at that time, save maybe Scarlet Witch. Whereas most mutant's talents where based on something tangible or believeable, Domino's was much different. Most mutant's talents where based on something scientific even. Something that would be easy to believe if humans where to evolve in such a manner.

I reason was because Domino's talent was that "things just seem to go her way" so to speak. Like having endless good luck. I guess her name comes from the saying "when the dominos are stacked against you". But even besides that Domino was a mercenary. Hense the reason that once I started reading X-Force, I also met Deadpool, another mercanary (who I just posted about). And them two went together like vodka and oj (which is a reasonable statement since I prefer gin & juice). Anyway, two great charecters from one book, and one man at both their heels -- Cable. But that's a different story.

So here I was introduced to wonder of comic book via Domino. Although I do attribute much of my love for comics with The Age of Apocalypse in the X-Men books as well. Really much to the point that I've never found a X-Men story that I like more.

But anyway, I think that this post is long enough and my fingers are tired. I don't want to wear them out too much as I still have cold beer to hold onto tonight when I get home from work. So I will say peace out and talk to you all later.

PEACE OUT Miss NightBug

HOLLA Big Shane

I think Domino needs to be my next post. Domino and Deadpool go well together.

 Deadpool

Someone inspired me as I was reading her blog today. I tried and tried but I couldn't get that hilarious image Miss NightBug has of Deadpool, so I had to post this one with Deadpool roller scating (why can't i spell that?) with Dazzler.

Speaking of Deadpool, I got to thinking what I kick-ass comedian he is. If you have never read any Deadpool comics, you are missing a helluva a ride.

brb

I really intended to finish doing this post last night, but that's how things go. Anywho . . .

One of my favorite things about Deadpool is his annoying (to criminals) yet really damn funny, smart-ass comments he uses in battle with his oppenents. It's really annoy them to death and then if they're still standing actually fight them. He has more banter than Spider-Man. You thought Spider-Man (especially in latter series, pre-Ultimate Spider-Man) always had a smart-ass remark for his oppenents, Deadpool just never closes his mouth. Reminds me of the comment Don Chedale's charecter on Rush Hour 2 made, talking about Chris Tucker. He called Chris Tucker, 7-11. And Jackie Chan was like "7-11?" Don goes, "Because his mouth never closes." That's Deadpool to a "T".

But there are other good things about Deadpool comics. For one, his oppenents are just about as funny as he is. He gets these off the wall, second-string super-villians (especially in his on-going series) that no one else wants to battle. I mean he's had his serious oppenents too, but they're not as fun.

All in all he is a great charecter, whether you are reading his adventures in X-Force where he first debued (as a more serious charecter than he became in latter comics) or in his mini-series or on-going series that here recently ended a few years back. I haven't read the Deadpool/Cable series yet, but I'd like to. But my comic book budget is already tight, so you have to make some choices of what to read. It is unfortunate, but I can't afford every comic book I want. And let's not even talk about back issues. Hell I've got a 3-ring binder list of comics I need to fill out my collection. But enough comic talk, I gotta get back to work. Talk to yall later.

Making Out In A '85 Buick Century At 5am In A Gas Station Parking Lot

I just was sitting there reading "Watchmen" (that I mentioned in my post Comic Book Geeks 101) , sipping on a nice cold beer and that damn phone rang again. So here I am at work, waiting on the driver to pick up these parts and take them to the rig. So I thought I'd make the best use of my time and post something else.

Music seems to do something to me. I heard another good song on the radio on the way over to the shop again. I started thinking about what he was singing about. It was Margaritaville. I usually just hear the song about having margarita, and that he can't find his salt shaker. Actually most of time I hear, I wish they were playing the Pina Colota song, I like that one alot too.

Anyway he says "Some people claim that there's a woman to blame, but I know, it's my own damn fault." Made me wonder how many times I thought that about women. Most of the time (back when I was dating) it was gin & juice and not margaritas. But many times I did blame the women in my life for some of the heartache that I supposed I had. But really alot of the time it was "my own damn fault". I got attached to someone that was never planning on being there for me. It was just something to do. Go to the movies, eat, make out in the car at 5am in the morning (that only happened once, and to make matters worse she was pregnant).

And to this day, I still don't get it. It don't get how some people can make a recreation out of dating. The little bit I did, I looked at each woman I dated as the one, with every intention of being serious about it. (Except the pregnant gal, you don't EVEN want to know about that story. Although I'm sure now that I have reminded myself of it, it will come out in some whiskey-induced post.) I still see that today, maybe even more.

I can just see when my 14-year old son comes to me and says -- "Dad I have a girlfriend." And my response? "Do you have a job? A car? A place to live? What about children? Are you going to marry this gal?" In a very desperate attempt to scare the hell out of him. I may be old school, but I can definatly tell you there is no sense in dating at that young of an age, when you can't even pass your math quiz. Everything has a place sometime in your life and dating at 14 is just too damn young to me.

Well Im doing as I always do, rambling. Anyway, I'd better get back home. We're having pinto beans cooked in the crockpot, with fried potatoes. Yummy.

I'm gonna check some of yalls blogs before I go, hopefully I won't have to come back here until Monday. Take care all.
